It’s tax season

In the category of, “What else do you do”, there’s this: I do taxes. Canadian tax rules are a nightmare. That’s why I’m here. I work with a solid team and we can cover anything in the Canadian tax system.

Fashion Splash 2024

This year’s Fashion Splash fashion show is coming up on February 17!

Today I met with one of the designers and am very excited to be walking for BatFish Studio. I’m not often swayed by “eco fashion” because the term tends to be a misused buzz-word, but after visiting the studio I can honestly say that this is a designer who not only understands the spirit of eco fashion, but does it well with cool and innovative designs that I’m really looking forward to showcasing with my time on the runway.

Goodnight, Sweet boy

Sabian's journey was one of resilience and unwavering love. When Sabian left us in his sleep, he was peaceful and without pain. He was surrounded by those who cherished him most—his family. It was a moment of quiet grace, a fitting end to a life that touched us all.

This will be the last update on Sabian.

On the morning of September 25th, we said goodbye to Sabian. This comes with a with a mix of sadness and gratitude for the unforgettable time we've had with him. We would also like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who was a part of his life and showed their affection and support during his illness. That care has helped us navigate this process.

Sabian's journey was one of resilience, and unwavering love. When Sabian left us in his sleep, he was peaceful and without pain. He was surrounded by those who cherished him most—his family. It was a moment of quiet grace, a fitting end to a life that touched us all.

On his last day, Sabian reveled in the simple joys of life, as he had done throughout his time. MacAuley Point, his favorite park, became his kingdom, and he embraced the role of King Sabien with all the regal dignity he possessed. As he plodded along the familiar paths, his loyal companions Mezzie and Darby bounced ahead, a testament to the enduring bonds of his pack.

Darby and Mezzie, clearing a path for Sabers.

Sabian's affinity for splashing in the water was unmistakable as he strolled along the shore, his paws immersed in the cool embrace of the waves. He had an uncanny knack for finding the most peculiar and delightful things to investigate, reminding us that life's treasures are often hidden in unexpected places.

And of course, he wore his King's Crown, not because he needed it to symbolize his place as a monarch, but simply because he could - his sense of style and flair was as unique as his spirit.

Sabian was a King.

To all who had the privilege of knowing Sabian, he was, without a doubt, royalty. His sweet and loving disposition made him the center of our world. He commanded our attention, not with regal authority, but with his gentle presence and boundless affection.

Sabian had the remarkable ability to touch our hearts with the simplicity of his love. Anyone who looked into his big brown eyes was moved by the depth of his quiet affection and the warmth of his heart.

A benevolent King rules with genteel consideration.

As the day moved on on, Sabian grew tired. He took the opportunity to rest a few times along the way. Each pause was a chance to savour the beauty of his park and the joy of his family's company. He relaxed watching other dogs scamper about, a reminder that life is a tapestry of tranquil moments, and the excitement of new discoveries.

Soft grass is a nice place to rest.

Back at home, Sabian had a special dinner with his beloved brother Mezzie and his sister Darby. A feast fit for a king, they shared a meat salad made with everything in the barn - chicken, duck, lamb, chicken hearts, and steak chunks.

Later that night, Sabers and his pack received an early visit from Santa Claus. There was no real reason, Santa was just in the neighbourhood and wanted to see some dogs. It was a fun moment with lots of ear scritches, nose boops, and giggles as well as a reminder to live in the moment and appreciate spontaneous adventures. The rest of the night was filled with cuddles and kisses.

Santa joins the pack.

As we say our final goodbye to Sabian, we are reminded what it means to be a King. To find joy all around us, and to accept the love we are shown. To make a big impact with a soft touch.

Rest in peace, Sweet Boy. You were a King in every sense of the word. Your legacy lives on in the love you shared, and your spirit will always be with us as a silent presence and the shadow of your wagging tail.

Goodnight, Sabian.

An Update on Sabian

He’s a good boy. ♥

We want to take a moment to share the latest on Sabian's battle.

After undergoing a challenging surgery to remove the tumor, Little Sabers exhibited tremendous strength and determination during his recovery. He fought through the toughest days with an unwavering spirit and bright, clear eyes that warm the hearts of everyone around him. For a while, it seemed as though he might just conquer this monster.

However, as we navigate this journey with Sabian, we must acknowledge the difficult reality that the tumor has returned. While his spirit remains unshaken, we must face the truth that this relentless adversary has grown more resilient, making the road ahead more strenuous. Sabian continues to amaze us with his resilience and unwavering affection. The love and support he receives from everyone around him, provides him, and us, with some comfort. Your contributions have helped cover medical expenses and given Sabian the opportunity to have more special moments with his family.

As the days pass, he has been having more good days than bad and we cherish every moment with him. Despite the inevitable goodbye that lies ahead, we remain committed to making the remainder of Sabian's journey as comfortable and meaningful as possible. Your continued support means the world to all of us. We want to express our deepest gratitude for being a part of this fight with us. It has really made a significant difference in Sabian's life.

We will keep you updated on Sabian's journey as it unfolds, and we appreciate your unwavering support throughout this chapter.

Little Sabers

He may be an old man, but he’s still our baby.

Just breathe

Just. Breathe.

Chill is where you find it. Everything might be on fire but if you can't find your centre you'll burn with it. Take a minute, strip down and feel the sun on your skin. Take a breath.

This photo was taken on a burning hot day. I was working from home, no ac, had an hour between meetings, and was behind the 8 ball on a large project with messages pouring in with constant updates.

Overwhelmed by minutia, unfocused, and overheating it was time for a break. A glass of water and few minutes of personal time in the sun was all it took to reset, refocus, and destroy the rest of the day.

Your life is yours.

Own every minute.

Chroma Aphotic

Fourth cover of the year!

Another cover!

This has been a wild year. Chroma Aphotic was the culmination of weeks of planning, seven photoshoots, and countless hours pouring over details. I’m very happy to have worked with Vanguard Magazine. They’ve been on my radar for a while as being very fashion-forward but I never really expected to make the cut. A lot of what I do does not fit the common standard in the fashion world. My projects are almost always in the “other” category. Most feedback from respected outlets can be summarized as an overall glowing dissection but ends with “I don’t know how to use this.” In a way it’s kind of awesome, but means limited publication. A big turning point has been working with a new collaborator and learning how to properly package the material. The imagery has not changed at all, I’ve just gotten better at framing it for the intended audience. Much of that learning curve has been fine-tuned through the collaborative process with Stef. Not a photographer or visual creator, but a crucial part of the process by way of content development and image architecture, Stef has been lurking behind the scenes for a while, providing input and creative direction. Without the Stef-filter this project would not have happened.

So, thank you to Vanguard Magazine for giving me a platform to express my nonsense, and thank you to Stefano for holding the reigns, keeping me focused, and all the other ways you’ve contributed to this project. It’s refreshing to be on the same page from start to finish. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Cover #4… this year

Chroma Aphotic: Colour without light. Aphotic usually refers to the depth of the ocean where light no longer reaches. Creatures at that depth live in darkness. They navigate blind. Colour exists but they don’t see it. It has no meaning. This set started in black and white, indoors, shot late at night, before moving into bright natural light and blinding colour, before coming full circle and summarizing with a bright black and white shot during a bright afternoon. Every image is loaded with coded commentary that tells a story, but the iridescent minutia is lost to the casual observer.

Cameo

Well, damn.. Now I’m on Cameo. Hahaha!

I did another pointless thing.. I started a Cameo page. I’ve had enough requests for Happy Barfday messages, or Congrats on your divorce, or whatever, that it seemed like a good time to do it. I’m a little curious how this will go.

Liquid metropolis

Last January I got my first international fashion magazine cover with this publication. The photoset was called Serkis. It was kind of surreal. Sure, that sounds amateur, I’ve been on stage and published countless times, but a cover is somehow a bit different. I don’t know why. It just is. In February I landed on another cover. The whole photoshoot for that set was a wild adventure in itself, but that’s a story for another time.

The current photoset is called Liquid Metropolis. I live in an area where the city pours into the ocean. We have beaches everywhere. The cover image was taken on a concrete staircase that dumps into the water at high tide. Just down the road is a dog park and cliffs where adventurous types will fly around in hang gliders. The whole photoset was a composition of three different shoots that capture that part of life here. Having been born here it can be easy to overlook, or forget about, this part of the city. It’s easy to not see it. Daily routines are the same for all of us, work and basic obligations don’t change. Liquid Metropolis was a fun look at my home through a fresh lens. While I don’t spend much time at the beach, it’s nice to be reminded that a breath of fresh air is never far away.

Hello Cuddlebug

The little man is doing great! In a manner of speaking.. He's been having more good days than bad. Slow and steady, his energy has been coming back. He's been bright-eyed and showing more recognition for familiar faces. He still has some trouble at night when the sundowning starts, but he's otherwise doing pretty good. He's sleeping better and his coordination is coming back. Not bumping into everything is nice to see. Haha . He's been more active, taking walks with his family and playing some of his favorite games. It's great to see him smiling and actively engaged with the world around him again.

He's still having trouble with his fine motor skills, but he's working hard at physical therapy to get better. And it's paying off so far! We're all so thrilled to see our fuzzy cuddlebug coming back. ♥

Look at those eyes!

Lots of tail wags

Good days like these make the bad days manageable. So good to see a spark of the puppy we fell in love with.

Our sweet boy is doing really well today. We're still waiting for test results from his last doctor's visit so there's no update on that front. The only news for now is that he's been in a refreshingly good mood since waking up this morning. His energy is up and he's been cheerful and waggly. His eyes are bright. His kisses are wet and sloppy. Seeing his him alert and focused is so cool! Days like today make the other days manageable. At heart he will always be the wiggly little pooper we fell in love with on day one and being able to look in his eyes and see that it's still there makes this an awesome day.

Rock on, Little Buddy! ♥

Wiggle waggle

Bright-eyed and squiggly. So cool to see him focused and alert.

Another magazine cover

Another one down.

Welcome to June. This month I will be on the cover of OFF TOWN magazine again. I’m not really sure what to say about it. It’s pretty exciting. That will be my 3rd cover this year. The goal is to hit 10 solid magazine spots, whether it’s a cover spot or not is irrelavent. I’ll post a link when it’s released. Unrelated, with a lot of projects in the works, there will be another big update coming soon…

I definitely need more hours in the day. …or more coffee. Either way, with a to-do list a mile long I’m already falling behind.

OFF TOWN Magazine

January 2023.
This was my first international fashion magazine cover set. This series was an amalgamation of 3 different photoshoots with connecting themes.

Very happy to be working with this publication again. ♥

A good day is a good day

Dog days of goodness. Sabian had a good day and we couldn’t be happier…

A good day is a good day. Sabian is doing well. He is now walking up and down stairs consistently. He still stumbles a bit and sometimes needs a little guidance, but he can do it. Every little bit of progress makes us all smile. He's not as active as he used to be, but he's doing a little more every day. One big step was a short game of tug-of-war. He tired out quickly, but had the energy to get in the game. It was an exciting moment. We're so proud of him!

Another Setback

Pics from before this incident.. Sabers is pretty sick today, but he is getting treatment and will pull through. He is so strong!

Our little moo-dog was back at the doctor's today. The swelling that followed the last seizure appears to be infection-related. This morning was a bad scene. His incision was seeping from an infection and he had to be rushed to emergency. He's had another CT scan and more tests. We are now waiting on the results and will update soon. In the meantime, we're giving him antibiotics to help address the infection. Once we have more information we'll be able to adapt the treatment plan appropriately.

Last night had some calm. It was nice. Mezzie and Darbie were being the attentive brother and sister they are. Mezzie brought him a favorite stuffed toy while Darbie sat nearby and barked at anyone who got too close. She has a big voice and uses it often. Mezzie prefers to keep an eye on the perimeter and check in. Sabian didn't have the energy to play with his toy, but kept it close by to use as a pillow or just held it with his little paw. He's a big boy but seems so small right now. Being helpless in the situation we are all feeling that way. He is such is such an important part of our family that, even though things are very different right now, we still see him as the waggy, bouncy puppy we know he is at heart. Glimpses of the familiar Sabian we fell in love with still shine through. He is very sick at the moment, and we know that things will never be the same, but seeing so much of what makes him special and knowing that, even behind the dementia, he is still in there, knowing that makes it easier to adjust to this new stage. There may be less time running wildly around the park, but there's more cuddle time, and any cuddle time with this beautiful boy is very welcome as he will always be our baby.

Bunny dogs! This pic was taken right before Sabian’s surgery. Little brother Mezzie and big sister Darbie are always at his side.

A minor setback

A bad day is just a day. A good day is right around the corner.

Well, the little man had a bad day. He had another seizure. It was a small one one, but it really took it out of him. There was no warning, but that's how it goes with this sort of thing. He's been doing well and making progress, slowly and steadily. We all knew there would be setbacks. It's an inevitable part of this process. We are all so attuned to Sabian's needs and well-being that we really felt it. He is not in any pain, but he's exhausted. A byproduct of the seizure has been pronounced swelling of his whole head. Sabian occupies such a large piece of our hearts that seeing him in this state makes it, at times, hard to hold back tears. It's important to remember that he is not in any pain. Discomfort, yes, but no pain. Due to the dimentia he experiences "sundowning" and, combined with today's episode, presented a new challenge. It almost felt like a two-steps forward one-step back kind of situation, but we choose to focus on the positive. I think our reaction to seeing him like this confuses him more than anything. He is still with us, in our arms giving us love and comfort, wagging like a puppy and being the cuddlebug we have always know him to be. We remain hopeful that Sabian will continue to recover, and this has only been a temporary setback.

The vet has assured us that the swelling will go down and that he will be fine. The medication is working and we are working with him to help him through his recovery. We are still very happy that he has been able to walk up and down stairs a few times. Even if he can't do it today or tomorrow, he will do it when he is ready and we will be at his side cheering for him.

Cuddles, kisses, and nose boops for the little man.

Mother’s day with sabian

Happy Mother’s Day! Sabian took an important step in his recovery…

UPDATE:

Happy Mother's Day! The whole family got together to celebrate. Sabian had a great time with some dog friends as well as his humans. He has also taken a big step in his recovery. He has now walked up and down the stairs by himself a few times. Since the seizure he has needed to be either carried or just very closely assisted so this is a very exciting event. Mother's Day was particularly great because he was so cheerful and had more energy than we've seen in a while. After so many difficult days our optimism has been replenished.

The weather was perfect and seeing him surrounded by so many people who love him and are all cheering for him was fantastic, if not a little overwhelming. We're so proud of our boy and wanted to share this milestone. He still has a long way to go but seeing glimpses of him reclaiming his old self really reinforces our confidence in his strength.

THE KING WILL RISE!

Sabian

Sabian is a good boy. He’s had some health problems lately, but is doing better. He has a little dog-brother, Mezzie, and a big dog-sister, Darby. His pet human is a pretty cool person who’s been there with him 24hrs a day, giving him meds, caring for him, and keeping him comfortable.

Blogging has never been my forte. Writing, sure, that’s easy. Blogging is different somehow. After a recent incident with a dog-friend I wanted to introduce him to the world.

I'd like you to meet Sabian. He's a good boy with a good family life. He lives with two other dogs: his little brother, Mezzie, and his big sister, Darby. This little pack of hooligans have a pet human who is one of the most important people in my life, which makes them, by proxy, like my kids... or at least little nieces and nephews.

dog, cake, birthday, cuddles, love, puppy, giggles, smile, good times

Puppy kisses and cake on Sabian’s birthday. I love this little boy. ♥

Sabian came home as a puppy and has been part of the family ever since. He's never had any serious health problems until this March when he had a grand mal seizure. With no prior warning signs, it was shocking, to say the least. After rushing to the vet, it was discovered that he had a glioblastoma brain tumor. If you are unfamiliar with this sort of thing, a GB tumour is a pretty bad diagnosis. We were devastated but knew that we had to do whatever we could for him.

It was a scary time, but we rallied around him. We have been taking the best possible care of him and making sure he is comfortable and happy. It's not easy, but we are determined to fight for him. Devloping a treatment plan was crucial. Guided by the vet and several tests to determine the most appropriate course, a proper care plan has been worked out. After a lot of consideration and weighing the risk of something so invasive, we decided to proceed with surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible.

The operation went well. It was smooth and without incident, and we were so relieved. The first few days of recovery, however, were pretty scary. The vet reassured us that everything was fine, but seeing your little boy in such a state is just plain hard. To help address the mounting vet bills, we have set up a GoFundMe page.

Just waking up from surgery.

As of today, the incision is almost fully healed and his medication is working. He makes minor improvements every day, with some days being better than others. Sabian also lives with dementia which presents it's own challenges, but as we adapt to his new behaviours we become better at reading his signals and meetings his needs in a way that allows us to help him feel normal.

Sabian's life is different from what he knew and the tumour may come back at any time, but we are with him every step of the way to make him as comfy and happy as possible. We still take him for walks, and cuddle with him on the couch as we try to keep things as routine and predictable for him as we can. This little guy has taught us a lot about resilience, strength and love in the face of adversity.

Sabian is our family's hero and he inspires us every single day. We are so thankful that he is as strong as he is and we cherish every moment we have with him.

I'll be posting more cheerful updates and lots of photos of his shenanigans and adventures as he has them. His recovery has been bumpy and arduous but improvements are steady, albeit slow.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Sabian.

The little dog pack with Sabian front and centre. The incision is healing and he’s looking like quite the little bad-ass. Pretty soon he’ll be making up stories to impress the ladies. Haha
